So an unknown fact for many of my clients and friends is that on the side (as more of a hobby) I help people declutter their homes. I know…I’m weird…I’m ok with it.
Your Clutter and Your Cash are directly linked. The people that I’m helping don’t realize is the direct link between the clutter and the cash in their bank account. Here are a couple before and after pictures from two of my sessions with a friend. The Before picture is at the top of this post while the After image is seen below.
Some people might think,” pffff I can do that myself, why would I hire someone to help.” Clutter can be completely overwhelming and most people will give up part way through, having someone there to question your motives about keeping something make things move faster and without emotional attachment. Clearing out the clutter in your home can help you in the following ways…
EARN EXTRA CASH
Earn extra cash by selling the crap you don’t use! When we moved into our house 12 years ago there was the world’s ugliest doorbell. I took it down and thought I’ll throw it up on eBay for $2, worst case it doesn’t sell and I send it to the dump. It sold for $180 and I had people asking if I had more!!! You never know when something you don’t use or don’t want anymore might be the exact item someone else is searching for! The last person I helped declutter last week had $200 in pocket by the end of the next day! You don’t have to have a garage sale; you can also sell on eBay, Facebook, etsy or even donate the item if it doesn’t sell.
Save money by finding things you already have! I was recently helping someone with their bathroom (which by the way emotionally is usually your ability to take care of yourself) and when I was finished I came out and told her she better not buy any floss or razors in the next year. Her reaction is you found some? I couldn’t find any last week! She now had a drawer full of floss and another drawer specifically for razors…. When you think about it we just saved her probably $100 between the two items! Why buy something you already have? Now she has $100 to spend on herself or pay down her debt.
Getting organized when it comes to paperwork and your home is an incredibly freeing feeling and can even help you lose weight! When you are organized and budget it gives you the ability to plan ahead which can in turn save you money, you eat at home instead of a drive thru, you don’t overspend on items you already have, you can feel more comfortable and at peace in your home. When it comes to paperwork clutter and my clients I find that disorganization with bills/budgets and be a huge problem. By getting it organized in a simple file folder it is easier to know what you have or haven’t paid, when bills are due, how much is in your accounts, or where you can save money.
Clutter usually comes down to emotional issues. Some clutter is because we aren’t willing to let go of a past event or hurt, other clutter is holding on to a belonging from a loved one who has passed on, or sometimes life has just gotten so busy you become lost in the overwhelm.
Whatever the root cause is clearing out the clutter can help you emotionally, mentally and financially. If you are interested in a consultation give me a shout.
