So I just love it when someone calls me on my own money $hit. Sorry Mom…yes I swore online. But seriously since my money coaching career has started everyone from my husband to close friends has been teaching me right back what I have been teaching them.
This week I had two wonderful friends call me on something I hadn’t even thought about…I was complaining about how many people I still have to get XMAS presents for and how I don’t like how Christmas seems to be all about the gifts. Then these lovely ladies called me on it.
“Why do you have to buy for those people?”
“What will happen if you say let’s not exchange this year?”
These are the same things I would say to a client but here they were being said to me! They questioned my reality and made me wake up. I then called my sisters and asked if maybe they are OK with not doing presents for nieces and nephews this year, in my mind I thought they would take offense or say no…what did they say;
“Ya that’s fine with me, my kids have so much stuff anyways!”
and “Wahoo! That makes my budget easier, I might still send them a little something but thanks!”
Boom there it was. I talked with other family and found out they didn’t want anything or said just something little and gave me ideas. Here I had created a story as to why I had to buy all these expensive or large gifts for all sorts of family and friends and in reality it turns out they felt relieved that I took the pressure off of them too!
Don’t fall into the PRESENT PRESSURE this Christmas, take control and set some boundaries. After all Christmas is about love, family and friends not some crap from a store! Ask yourself if you are giving from the heart or from your head…the first is a better option!
