Well Black Friday is here. Please, DON’T BE A BLACK FRIDAY BOZO! Now let me be clear, there are some good deals on Black Friday but if you live in Canada I’m sorry to say that you are probably getting duped.
The same can be said for Superstore’s NO TAX event. I watch prices on items I buy consistently so I know that when a No Tax event is coming the prices on my everyday items have been marked up by 10-20%! So when you see people flocking to the store to save the 5-12% of tax they are actually paying more for items than they would have on a regular day. (unless its a sale item)
What can you do to not become a black Friday Bozo?
Know what the regular price of an item is.
This can be tricky if you haven’t been watching the prices over the last few months. But, if you dig around a bit you may find it isn’t that great of savings.
When something says 50% off… it may go 50% off every other week! .
From working in retail and being a business owner I can tell you that people love saving or getting a deal. What they don’t realize is the item I put a regular price of $19.99 on for 50% off, I paid $2 for… if they looked online on eBay they could probably buy it for $4.
Everything is negotiable!
Most people believe they can only get the deal when a sale is on. Bull$hit. Talk to a store manager or haggle with the salesperson. There is always some way to get a lower price on something. I personally don’t like to barter much but I have a few friends that are amazing at it and get steals all year long!
Don’t Buy It Just Because of the Deal!
If you find yourself being sucked into some sneaky marketing message me…you may have underlying emotions attached to feelings of a “good deal” that are actually costing you money.
Happy Deal Hunting! PS – I often use this site in Canada www.smartcanucks.ca the blog posts all sales, deals etc in one place!
