Did you know that Moms are the most valuable people in the world? Yet when moms think of themselves, they often think they are the least valuable?
A few months ago I had a friend over for a visit and to let the kids play. The Moms sat drinking tea, talking about life and everything that goes along with it, while the kids brought us trays of plastic food. I asked my friend if she planned to go back to work at all, maybe part time. All she could say was that she didn’t know.
“With 3 kids needing daycare, its not really worth it. But then I go get a Starbucks like today and I feel guilty that I’m not working but I’m still spending.”
Have you ever felt like that? Do you know someone who has or does?
From working with many moms of all ages I can tell you that when it comes to personal finances almost all of them share these same characteristics;
- – Fearful or Anxious (What if there isn’t enough money for the kids education, how can we make it?)
- – Guilt/Shame (How can I spend money on me when I don’t actually make any)
- – Non-Confrontational (Never want to say ‘No’ to kids or spouses)
- – Self- Sacrificing (Always putting the needs of others ahead of themselves)
- – Secretive (Heaven forbid nobody knows we don’t have it all together!)
These 4 toxics beliefs can lead to burnout, resentment, repressed feelings and more. Sometimes the resentment turns into shopping to feel better, which then of course ends up leading to more guilt! ( If you struggle from any of these it might be time to message me for a free consultation.)
This Mother’s Day whether you are 13 or 30 remember to tell your
Mom how valuable she really is to you.
If you had to put a “monetary value” on what a mom is really worth, just grab a piece of paper and make some notes. After all moms are:
- – Personal Assistants
- – House Cleaners
- – Laundry Personnel
- – Taxi Drivers
- – Daycare
- – Tutors
- – Secretaries
- – Personal Cooks
- – Mediator (Siblings)
- – Personal Shoppes
- – Bankers
- – Doctor
- – And more…. (Don’t forget the nightshift premiums!)
If you’re a mom that doesn’t feel valuable. look at all those above things and put a dollar value on it.
