Let’s get one thing straight…I’m a money coach but I am human. I have been a money coach with money issues.
What?!?!?! You aren’t some billionaire philanthropist trying to save the world one money issue at a time?
I know, I know, it’s a shocker! Just today I was meeting with one of my clients who didn’t quite stick to the budget over the last week…my response wasn’t What? How could you? It was “Ya…tell me about it.” Just like this particular client, I also tend to sway away from my “perfect budget” when I’m stressed or upset. We are emotional creatures and when it comes to money we tend to ignore how directly related to emotion it really is.
Has there been a time in the last few weeks you made a purchase based on how you were feeling?
SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!!!
It comes down to basic neuroscience. Now I could get all fancy and talk about dopamine, cortisol, and the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal system but that’s not me. Money issues are money issues. Let’s just say for some people getting a great deal, splurging on a shirt or in my case buying dinner out makes a person feel good. Everyone likes that “good” feeling, so then they want more. The trouble with this is that when you check the bank account later that good feeling might turn into regret and upset.
Before having my own Money Coach I too used to have those feelings of overwhelm and anxiety. In fact without having a coach I probably still would! Now I feel wealthy in more than one way. Are you wealthy?
Now this client and I both are going to revisit the budget. We will see where a few changes can be made and tah-daaaaaah we’ll both be just fine. One thing I always tell my clients is a budget should be flexible, life changes so will your budget. If you’re ready to budget and change your finances contact me or try a Cash Challenge!
