3 Ways to save Money on Back to School Shopping
If you’ve been in any type of store lately you will have noticed the summer stuff moving to clearance and shrinking in size with giant back to school signs popping up. It is getting closer to back to school shopping season and it is time to prepare!
Here are 3 tips that can help you save money with the back to school shopping!
- LEAVE THE KIDS AT HOME!
I’m serious. Not only does it make your shopping trip more enjoyable but it also saves you money. Emotionally speaking most people instantly think (subconsciously) back to their school days and the memories of not having the “cool clothes” or the fancy pencil case. These memories tend to have negative feelings attached to them. Instantly as a parent we want to protect our kids from those horrible experiences and buy them everything they want for back to school. If you can relate to this, leave the kids at home! You will save money and help them build character. I mean, you survived without the $16 pencil case right?!
- SHOP THE SALES!
Check out your school website for the class shopping lists. Most schools will have them posted for the year or have last year’s list which doesn’t vary too much from year to year. Print off the school list and then start doing some research on the prices for the items you are going to need. Find out how to find the best back to school sales here. For Example: Look at the regular price on this pack of crayons from Staples Online.
Sale $.75Now you might be thinking Whoop Dee Doo… $1.11 but if you multiply that type of savings over all the school supplies (and if you have more than one child) you can save yourself quite a bit!PS – The Dollar Store is NOT a good deal for school supplies, start watching the big store flyers and you’ll realize they have better deals and better quality supplies.
- SHOP THE SALES!
WAIT UNTIL SCHOOL STARTS!
Now for most school items like pencils, pens, erasers and such I recommend buying them before school starts. Some items fly off the shelves like crazy and if you wait too long you’ll have a tough time finding that specific color duo tang. For other items though like backpacks and clothes if you don’t need it right away, WAIT! Stores bring in a huge amount of stock for back to school, if it doesn’t sell before school you can pick it up for 50-75% off a week or so after school starts! I don’t know about you but if I can have an extra $10, $20, $100 in my pocket I will!
By the way Business Owners…this is a great time for you to stock up on things you might need around the office too! $1 binders vs $6 the rest of the year…. I know I’m going shopping! Check out how to find the best back to school sales!
